Phil has a special interest and wide-ranging experience in angular limb deformity correction. See the section on patellar luxation for a brief discussion of femoral deformity in association with patellar luxation, which is the most common deformity we correct. Phil has also presented at BVOA on antebrachial angular limb deformity correction*, and nobody has more experience than us at correcting all manner of deformities affecting the long bones.
We run regular angular limb deformity clinics during which clients are given time to discuss their dog’s specific deformities, the impact of these deformities on clinical function and options for treatment, along with an experience-based and, where available, evidence-based discussion of outcomes.
CT is useful for planning in a number of these cases, as is 3D printing, though we are not totally dependent on these techniques and we always favour the simplest solution, planning from plain radiography where possible, to give the most cost-effective treatment in association with the lowest risk of complications.
As a result of a wide range of potential fixation methods (from external skeletal fixation through conventional and locking plating technology and interlocking nailing) we are able to find the optimal treatment option for any case.
We were among the first to offer a guarantee to cover the costs of complications (T&Cs apply) when we worked together at another centre and we are pleased to offer this peace-of-mind at Wessex Veterinary Orthopaedics.
