We are equipped with Stryker high definition arthroscopy and have significant experience in utilising this modality for the canine shoulder, elbow and stifle. The advantages of arthroscopy over arthrotomy include increased visualisation of lesions, reduced morbidity and more rapid postoperative recovery.
Arthroscopy is most commonly performed in the treatment of elbow dysplasia. The approach to elbow dysplasia involves understanding the needs of the client and the dog, and balancing these with an understanding of what can be achieved in the face of elbow osteoarthritis to select the best approach. We are experienced with arthroscopy for elbow dysplasia treatment where debridement of coronoid process fragmentation or of osteochondrosis lesions on the medial part of the humeral condyle are necessary. Ulnar osteotomy techniques (dynamic and plated) are also available.
We were among the first to offer a guarantee to cover the costs of complications (T&Cs apply) when we worked together at another centre and we are pleased to offer this peace-of-mind at Wessex Veterinary Orthopaedics.
